Tommy started school today
His mam thought he would cry
But he was very brave
And waved his mom bye-bye.
The teacher showed him all the
books, paper, paint and crayons.
Then sat him at the table
Where he played with the trains.
Lunch time was really good
He left nothing on his plate
At home time he was happy
To see mammy at the gate.

On the Cathedral Green
High on the hill
Stood hundreds of soldiers
Perfectly still.
Stood to attention
Their colours held high
Their pride still intact
Though their endig is nigh
They fought well in wars
And some gave their life
But the regiment stood
like a bright burning light.
They fought for our freedom
With honour and pride
For the glory of England
They stood side by side
For two hundred years
They looked fear in the eye
and who are these people
The Brave DLI.
The soldiers of Durham
That’s who they be
The fighting brigade
Fighting for me.
Now their war is over
The fighting is done
They are being disbanded
But they will not run.
They will live in the knowledge
They will not be forgot.
That Durham and England
Owe them a lot.
So take heart you brave soldiers
Hold your head up high.
You will be remembered
As The Brave DLI.

Those who bring sushine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.

I love smiles and laughter.
If one wants more smiles in one’s life,
one must create the right conditions for it.
So how does one achieve that?
Certainly not through anger,
jealousy, extreem greed or hatred,
but through loving kindness,
an open mind and sincerity
The dalai Lama, B 1935

For the test of the heart is trouble
And it always comes with the years,
And the smile that is worth
the praises of earth
is the smile that shines through the tears.

One night a man had a dream
He dreamed that he was walking along the beach with the Lord,
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life
For each scene he noticed that there were two sets of footprints
In the sand, one belonging to him and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
He looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
There was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it was at the very lowest
and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you
You would walk with me all the way
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times
Of my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I
Needed you most, you would leave me.”
The Lord replied, “My Precious,
Precious child. I love you and would
Never leave you. During your times of
trial and suffering when you saw
only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes
and in the warmth of your greeting. For the
children, for the poor, for all those who suffer and
are alone, always have a happy smile. Give them
not only your care, but your heart.

Your presence is a present to the world.
You’re unique and one of a kind.
Your life can be what you want it to be
Take the days just one at a time.
Don’t put limits on yourself.
So many dreams are waiting to be realised.
decisions are too important to leave to chance.
Reach for your peak, your goal, your prize.
Nothing wastes more energy than worrying
The longer one carries a problem the harder it gets.
Don’t take things too seriously.
Live a life of serenity, not a life of regrets.
Count your blessings not your troubles,
You’ll make it through whatever comes along.
Within you are so many answers.
Understand, have courage, be strong.

Shall I come, sweet love, to thee, when the evening beams are set?
Shall I not excluded be? Will you find no feigned let?
Let me not, for pity, more tell the long hours at your door.
Who can tell what thief or foe in the covert of the night
For his prey will work my woe, or through wicked foul despite?
So may i die unredressed, ere my long love be possessed.
But to let such dangers pass, which lover’s thoughts disdain,
‘Tis enough in such a place to attend love’s joys in vain.
Do not mock me in thy bed, while these cold nights freeze me dead.

Let me not to the marrige of true minds
Admit impediments, love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O, no! it is an ever fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star in every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error, and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Bid me to live and I will live they protestant to be;
Or bid me love and I will give a loving heart to thee.
A heart as soft, a heart as kind, a heart as sound and free
As in the whole world thou canst find, that heart I’ll give to thee.
Bid that heart to stay to honour thy decree:
Or bid it languish quite away and ‘t do so for thee.
Bid me to weep and I will weep while I have eyes to see:
And having none, yet I will Keep a heart to weep for thee.
Bid me depair and I’ll despair under that Cypress-tree:
Or bid me die and I will dare e’en death to die for thee.
Thou art my life, my love, my heart, the very eyes of me;
And hast command of every part to live and die for thee.
Robert Herrick
